Farmers cheer as water flows to 4.5 lakh acres in Mahabubnagar

MAHABUBNAGAR: While the earlier rulers of Andhra Pradesh spent 30 years to irrigate one lakh acres of land, the present government has brought 4.5 lakh acres under irrigation in just two years, said Irrigation minister Harish Rao on Thursday.
The promise made by the chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to release Krishna water in  the district has been fulfilled.
The minister made these remarks after releasing water from Jurala parallel canal at Nandimalla village in Atmakoor mandal to Bhima Project on Thursday.   Addressing the gathering, Harish Rao said the people of the district have the first right to Krishna water, and promised that by next year, water for 8 lakh acres would be provided, undertaken at a cost of `700 crore, when all the pending projects would get completed.
The government has also acquired 2,500 acres for Palamuru Rangareddy Lift Irrigation scheme, he added.
He alleged that the leaders who had supported former AP CM YS Rajasekhara Reddy were shedding crocodile tears by raising the issue of irrigation projects. He made it clear that the state government would expedite PRLI project, adding that the CM would soon lay the foundation stone for the commencement of Tummadi Hatti lift irrigation project works. The minister also unveiled the stage-2 Jawahar Nettempadu lift irrigation project at Ryalampadu village in Dharoor mandal.
Meanwhile, Health minister C Laxma Reddy said that the government was completing all the  pending projects to irrigate the entire district and turn it into a green hub.
